That sounds pretty good gives them a fresh look at the same technique. Thank you I am going to try to incorporate some of that in my classes.

Bill,
I teach a very repetitive traditional style. I keep it fresh by reinforcement through application round robins. We spend very little time on the techniques by themselves and then I go into partner applications and then just about the time they start to get it I switch partners on them. Once they go through about 20 a partner for 3 or more partners I move on. With Kata I look at what they are doing pick 3 things they need to work on and then have them perform the kata with that particular focus for everyone for several repetitions. The point is again giving the students new things to think about while they are going through the routines. This keeps the mind thinking about perfecting the technique and therefore they stay engaged while I manage to get a couple of hundred repetitions of techniques out of the same sequences. They don't get bored and they will correct something that makes them more efficient. I also pick out certain aspects of kata and demonstrate the application and break it into an application drill for them to practice. Then wrap that up by going back to the kata so they can see the application use during the fight sequence.

Just wondering if anyone can tell me as an instructor how do you constantly evolve and keep your class fresh while maintaining structure in the class?

I am interested in any group that is researching and studying the arts. Hope you can use my input as well. Been at this for 30 years now.
